Nancy, her adopted grandmother, a steady and nurturing presence, encouraged her to listen deeply and care for those around her. And finally, Margaret Toner, one of her early teachers and a nun at her Catholic school, awakened in her a spiritual calling and desire to dedicate her life to service and education. Together, these women became the foundation of Dr. Patty’s lifelong commitment to helping others find purpose and meaning.
Those early lessons guided her decision to enter the religious life, where she spent two decades as a nun and educator, devoting herself to nurturing children and supporting families during difficult times. But even within that structured environment, her creative drive was unstoppable. Encouraged to forge her own path, she began producing documentaries on drug and alcohol abuse. This work merged her compassion for people with her desire to spark awareness and healing, and the films went on to earn nine national awards, proving that education, empathy, and innovation could come together to create lasting impact.
I was in the convent for 20 years and had the opportunity to create my own path, which was very unusual.

When Dr. Patty left the convent, she carried her faith in people and her belief in purposeful growth into the next chapter of her life. She met Sam Sanders, who would become her lifelong partner in both love and mission. Together, they settled in New England, where Dr. Patty founded Third Force Consulting, a practice dedicated to helping individuals and organizations align their inner purpose with their outer goals.

The Birth of Envision Your Future: Fostering Dreams and Visions
Dr. Patty and Sam moved to northern New Mexico, where they turned their attention to community organizing and youth development. It was there that she first noticed what she came to call the “dream gap.” Many of the children she worked with struggled to envision a future for themselves.
