In 2005-2006, we piloted Envision Your Future in a single classroom with great success. The following school year, 2006-2007, we piloted Envision Your Future in four classes and used four similar control classes for comparison. Each of the classrooms receiving Envision Your Future, students had fewer behavioral problems and performed better academically. In following the students who first received the program two years ago, their motivation to make positive choices and succeed academically has continued. It was clear that students receiving Envision Your Future are employing the intrinsic motivation to make positive choices in their lives. We are expanded the facilitation of Envision Your Future to our middle schools and in our truancy and drop-out prevention, teen parent and at-risk programs. Dr. Melville L. Morgan, Deputy Superintendent, Santa Fe Public School District.

  • The Youth Realize the intrinsic motivation needed to commit to creating a positive future, which leads to continuing their education, making life-giving choices, the building of developmental assets/individual protection factors, self-concept, self-control and social responsibility resulting in improved high school graduation rate, a significant decrease in school bullying, drugs, gangs, crime, teen pregnancy and teen suicide. Youth coming out of incarceration create a plan and develop the intrinsic motivation to keep on a positive path for life. Respect for: self, their parents, other adults, school, property and community.

Our youth cannot wait. They need the inner foundation, intrinsic motivation, support and guidance now to successfully move ahead. Patty O'Sullivan, Ph.D.

Educators Realize: Being appreciated for their work. Seeing their students value their education. Reduced negative and risky behavior. Safe and supportive class and school environment.

Parents Realize: Improved communication, pride in their children's academic achievement, positive attitude and healthy choices. Parents see their kids giving respect to them, other adults, property and community and a reduction in negative behavior.

Adults Working With Youth And Adjudicated Youth Programs Realize: Positive response from the youth and growth in maturity. Youth making healthy, life-giving choices. Reduction in negative and risky behavior. Respect for themselves and others. A reduction in recidivism. Satisfaction in a job well done.

We need to elevate our youth to be bigger than their problems. Patty O'Sullivan, Ph.D.
